GETTING TO KNOW YOU: MEET YOUR REGIONAL DIRECTORS
In this issue of e-Communiqué, we will introduce you to two new Regional Directors: Becky Bennett (Region 5) and Michele Whiteside (Region 10). In the spirit of ACCED-I's mission to "improve, promote, and recognize excellence in the collegiate conference and events profession," we encourage you to communicate with your regional directors and director-elects as they are a great resource for sharing news, communicating with those in your region and supporting you and your operation. Region 5 - Becky Bennett
Becky Bennett has just recently taken the position of Region 5 Regional Director. Becky is the event/summer conference manager at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She has been a member of ACCED-I for three years and in the collegiate conference and events industry since August 2001. As a substitute teacher, Becky was looking for something to do during the summer and she looked to her alma mater, Bethel University, and got a job in the summer conference office. After the second summer, a position opened up, she applied and got it! As event/summer conference manager, Becky is in charge of all rental events on campus including a 1,600 seat concert auditorium, classroom and conference spaces, and seven residence halls during the summer. Becky is married and has two children.
Region 10 - Michele Whiteside
Michele Whiteside is the event and technology manger/commencement coordinator at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia. She has been in the collegiate conference and events industry for 10 years and a member of ACCED-I for seven. She got started in the industry as a catering manager hired after graduation. Michele's current responsibilities include most events on campus, as her office is the scheduling clearinghouse, R25 administrator, and commencement coordinator. She has been very involved with ACCED-I as a presenter at Regional Meetings and Annual Conferences and a member of the Membership Recruitment/Retention Project Team and Corporate Relations Project Team. Michele will be hospitality co-chair for the 2007 Annual Conference in Baltimore. On a personal note, she can also be seen on tv - she was on the PBS special "Enjoying Wine with Mark Phillips."
