East Side Elders, an organization in Minneapolis that empowers seniors to live safe and independent lives in their homes, was chosen as the 2018 ACCED-I Act of Caring recipient by the Annual Conference Hospitality Committee. Prior to, and during, the ACCED-I 38th Annual Conference ACCED-I members and event attendees gave generously to the organization.

By the conclusion of the conference over $2400 was raised through online and cash donations. ACCED-I Regions were challenged with a Bingo game for wish list items from East Side Elders such as books, puzzles, and gift cards. Numerous trips to the nearby Target were made to complete the Bingo cards. In addition to the online and cash donations, $500 in gift cards, and over 700 items were donated to the organization.

Janet Golden, Executive Director of East Side Elders, emailed 2018 Act of Caring coordinators Katie Olson and Stephen Leddy and said, "I just want to thank you all so much for the incredible donations!  We have purchased some items with the gift cards (toilet paper!) and a board member donated a cabinet for us to store all the other items! We also put together groceries for 8 clients (16 bags) and they were delivered last Thursday.

We will be doing a "Toilet Paper Outreach" at the Native American Elders Lodge later this week, and another group will be distributing personal care items at a St. Paul Public Housing senior building on Friday!

So, you can see that we are really making the most of the wonderful donations and spread the word around the community --  so much so that a 9 year old challenged his hockey team to come up with items and they raised $72.00 along with 26 rolls of TP!

Again, please send our heartfelt thanks to all!"

ACCED-I would like to thank everyone for their generous support for the ACCED-I Act of Caring! The Act of Caring began in 1998 and offers attendees a chance to give back to the community hosting the Annual Conference.
