By Sherry Ebrahimi, CCEP, ACCED-I Board of Directors President
For those of you who were able to join us in Minneapolis, the last day of the conference was bittersweet. We know that all good things must come to an end, but we also take some time to celebrate the successful meeting and fellowship of being with old friends and new.
For me, the last day of the conference was significant for a couple of reasons: First, I had to make sure not to stumble over my words on stage as I took the gavel from my dear friend Jim Hodges and start my year as President of the Board of Directors for ACCED-I. Second, it was the beginning of the new year for my family. The March equinox, or first day of spring, is celebrated as Persian New year, or Nowruz. This is one of my very favorite holidays. We celebrate by gathering with friends and family over a huge meal. I have always thought that it made great sense for the first day of the New Year to be the first day of spring. Spring is a time of new life, new beginnings, and heading back outdoors. It made a lot of sense for me to begin my year as Board of Director President on New Year’s day - and with this new year comes resolutions.
The day after the conference the new Board of Directors spent the day in meetings making plans for the year ahead. In this meeting, I asked the board to think about how they would commit to ACCED-I this year. I asked them to make their own resolutions as it relates to their service to the Association. Now it is my turn to ask you, the membership: What is your New Year’s resolution for your own professional development? Is there a topic area that you need to learn more about? Check out our Educational Forums
! Is it time for you to get an accreditation? Enroll in our CCEP
certification program! Do you need to re-think something on your campus and just need advice? Post in our Communities of Practice
or use the membership directory
to reach out to colleagues! The answer for your professional development needs can certainly be found with ACCED-I. The Annual Conference is a wonderful resource for many of us, but it is only one piece of what we offer. Make a resolution to invest in yourself and reach out to your ACCED-I family - we are here for you!
