A message from ACCED-I - June 22, 2020 1:00pm MDT
In the short time since we last addressed the membership, we’ve seen the continuation of protests and calls for change not only across the country, but throughout the world. Increasingly, the critical importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion is becoming clearer in all aspects of education, business, and day-to-day life.
As more people strive to listen, share, and educate themselves on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, timely and relevant resources are more important than ever before. In our last message, we asked our members to unite and educate themselves as much as possible. ACCED-I is committed to being as much a part of the solution as possible and have made the registration of our upcoming Educational Forum on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion free to all ACCED-I members. We hope that many of you will be able to join us as we discuss the topics “Take Care: Amplifying and Celebrating Marginalized Community Members Through Co-Created Campus Events” and “Fostering Equity, Inclusion & Social Justice: Best Practices for University Events”. More information and the registration link can be found here.
We encourage you to take advantage of this Educational Forum later this week on June 25th and we hope it will provide a better understanding of what can be expected on our campuses when students return and events resume.
We plan to include more DE&I topics in our Zoom Conversations as well as our regular educational curriculum. Previously recorded DE&I zoom calls can be viewed here. If there are specific topics that you would like us to explore, please let us know. Together we can all be a part of the solution and a conduit for change.
With best regards,
President, Board of Directors
A message from ACCED-I - June 4, 2020
In these already challenging and uncertain times, the events of the past week have been painful and heartbreaking. The COVID-19 Pandemic has, for the last few months, had us all facing situations we never thought we would find ourselves in. Through it all our community has remained strong and supportive – united in the belief that we will come through this together, stronger, and more connected than ever.
In light of the death of George Floyd, and many before him, and the protests happening now throughout the country, we call on our community to unite again. Unite against racism, violence, injustice, and discrimination of any kind. We voice our support to those engaged in peaceful protests and their right to be heard and recognized and encourage everyone to educate themselves on critical social issues and stand up for what is right.
As an Association we are absolutely committed to our statement on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and will continue our efforts to bring more education and opportunities on these important issues to our members so that we can all benefit as we listen, learn, and grow.
ACCED-I is guided by principles of mutual respect, common purpose, and equity. We are stronger because of our diversity. We have shown strength and resilience in difficult times and encourage all members to continue to reach out, to share, to support each other.
With best regards,
Karen L. Nedbal
President, Board of Directors
