Each year at the ACCED-I Annual Conference, members come together to make a meaningful impact by supporting a local nonprofit in our host city. This tradition has become a powerful way to connect with the community and give back where it matters most. The ACCED-I Act of Caring Subcommittee is proud to introduce this year’s nonprofit partner: Horses Offering Opportunities for the Future, Inc.
Mission Statement:
Horses Offering Opportunities for the Future, Inc. (HOOF KY) adopts and puts into action the immortal words of Winston Churchill that, "There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man." by combining the magic of the horse with the natural enthusiasm of a child to positively impact the lives of disadvantaged, at-risk, and trauma stricken youth, ages 9-18, in the Kentucky region. Given horses have the unique ability to change lives they become powerful teachers of trust, respect, and responsibility which is lacking in the lives of these "forgotten" children. HOOF KY runs weekly summer day academies that teach stewardship of the horse through riding by certified instructors, hands-on horse and barn management, and equine education. Participants quickly develop a work ethic and understand that there is no place for apathy or laziness as they learn to cooperate with both two and four legged creatures to ensure the safety and success of both horse and rider. Barriers of distrust, isolation, and manipulation are diminished which results in fewer destructive behaviors allowing participants to better meet their life challenges by making positive choices that lead to productive and successful lifestyles.
Two ways to Make an Impact:
