Are you ready to sing happy birthday? The 39th Annual Conference Hospitality Act of Caring sub committee selected Beverly’s Birthdays as the recipient of this year’s fundraising initiative. Beverly’s Birthdays is a Pittsburgh nonprofit organization with the mission to provide birthday celebrations for children experiencing homelessness and families in need. Act of Caring Committee Chair, Mark Williams, said “We are excited to be teaming up with Beverly’s Birthdays. This is a fantastic organization focused on making a real difference in children’s lives 365 days a year.”

In March of 2011, Beverly's Birthdays founder, Megs Yunn, met a young girl, Beverly, who shared with Ms. Megs that she had never had her own birthday party or even her own slice of birthday cake.  Inspired by Beverly's story, Megs decided to start an organization that provides birthday celebrations for homeless children in the Pittsburgh Region.

Beverly’s Birthdays Mission Statement:

We believe in spreading birthday cheer 365 days a year and that every child, regardless of personal or financial circumstances deserves a special birthday.

In order to effectively spread birthday cheer, Beverly’s Birthdays operates under the following values:

Charisma: "It is a sparkle; an invisible energy, with visible effects."

Joy: "There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward."

Compassion: "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion."

Purpose: "A life without cause is a life without effect."

Cheer: "The best way to spread cheer is to smile from ear to ear."

The Act of Caring Committee’s lofty goal is to exceed the total amount raised in donations and in-kind giving during the last conference in Minneapolis.  How are we going to accomplish this goal?  Involve all ACCED-I members in this year’s fundraising effort by offering various opportunities to give.  The fact is that we all have birthdays, so in lieu of a gift this year consider asking your friends and family to make a small donation to Beverly’s Birthdays in your name as a fun way to give.  We even encourage you to involve your staff and campuses in the effort by spreading the word about this great organization via Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.  Your generous donation will go a long way to help us fulfill the birthday wishes for over 15,000 children all over the Pittsburgh region.  On behalf of the Act of Caring Committee, thank you for helping us make this fundraising activity a huge success.
