Fall has always been my favorite season. Along with college football (Roll Tide! And Go Noles!), the superior weather, and a trip to the beach with my family after a busy summer, October is a highlight because of Halloween.
At my house, my kids Evan and Cyrus always have one (or two) elaborate homemade costumes. Some years my mother spends months making the elaborate character you have never heard of from Star Wars costume for my Evan, or Cyrus’s favorite video game character costume. Last year, when Cyrus wanted to be Spock, He and I ran upstairs to cut his hair and give him straight bangs—giggling the whole way while my husband called out: “whatever you do, don’t cut your hair, Cyrus!”
In the fall, I plan and attend lots of celebrations and events. At the Annual Conference for ACCED-I, I tend to hang out with my friends in the field who plan more events and catering functions. I get giddy in the office when the catering magazines arrive. Although this is not part of my vocation at Emory, it is certainly my avocation in every way. I love that I can talk to colleagues about catering trends, new beverages, and decorating ideas for campus. I enjoy meeting with vendors at the conference who have new ideas for decorating and always pass their info along to our catering staff. I also enjoy spending time visiting the cutting edge new restaurants in the city we visit.
