President's Message

As we all continue to work and begin planning for what the future will hold, I find it very uplifting and encouraging to interact with my fellow ACCED-I members.  Through Zoom meetings, educational opportunities and simple email messages, I find it heartening to see, read and hear other event professionals sharing and seeking approaches to moving event offices and staff forward to the “new normal.”

Since Karen shared a quote in the last Connect, I thought I would share my favorite quote as well.  “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”  It’s from the song Beautiful Boy by John Lennon.  I heard this quote when I was a new parent and struggling with the chaos that comes with a toddler boy.  It helps to remind me that I have to sometimes let go of the things I cannot control.

As we seek to move forward in the coming months, it’s important to understand what our offices can do to support our campus.  This is my favorite thing about what I witness on these calls; our members moving forward, seeking wisdom from peers and sharing their own wisdom.

A favorite comment regularly heard from members is, “I have found my people.”  Now is the time to take advantage of so many opportunities available through your membership.  In the last Connect (May 18, 2020), Karen pointed out opportunities for members, so I will not repeat her comments, but instead highlight opportunities:

We are all in this together.  We know our value to our institutions.  Let’s make certain we continue to grow and learn from our fellow members.  Share your ideas and concepts with other members who may be facing similar struggles.  We have each other’s back!

Be well and take care,
