Greetings!  I hope this finds you all well and healthy.

I spend many hours these days thinking about what is happening that is positive in our world today.  Often these thoughts lead to my three amazing children, my friends that support and encourage me and my family that keeps me grounded.

As I pondered what to write for this article, I wanted to address my friends and colleagues in ACCED-I and how important this organization is to me, and hopefully you as well.  I continually find myself revisiting the ACCED-I website, my previous Annual Conference folders and connections I have made seeking wisdom, guidance and help from my peers.

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, it is important to identify the role your office will play in the reality brought on by COVID-19.  Be prepared to address the concerns of your student and professional staff that may be returning to campus after time spent working remotely.  To quote Maya Angelou, “Try to be the rainbow in someone else’s cloud.”

Challenge your staff (and yourself) to define (or redefine) your place on your campus.  My staff tires of my reminding them to make themselves irreplaceable on our campus.  Be engaged, find new opportunities to assist your campus to prepare for the coming year.  Take the time now to look at summer 2020 and what procedures or protocols may need to be adjusted to assure people’s concerns.

It is important to know that ACCED-I continues to be a resource for all of its’ members.  Whether it be from the COVID-19 Resources or the Communities of Practice (both at acced-i.org), the ACCED-I staff works daily to provide resources our membership needs to learn and develop.  There is an Educational Forum on Risk Management and Liability scheduled for Thursday, July 23, 2020.

As we prepare for the final weeks of summer, I hope you all have a chance to unplug from the work world, however you see fit.

Be well and enjoy!  My next writing will be after the school year has begun at CMU!  I wish the clock would slow some days!
