UTSA now has a centralized event system!
Nikki Lee and Andrea Brown were on the team who lead the charge to centralize the event process at The University of Texas at San Antonio. They won the President’s Team Award for this initiative. Congratulations to their entire Events Management team for being a part of this huge initiative for a four campus institution.
Regional Leadership Changes
Our Immediate Past Region 2 Director, Sravanthi Meka will be leaving Georgia Tech and ACCED-I to continue her marketing career with a local video creative agency. We thank her for all of the commitment and fun she brought to our association. We wish her all the best and will miss her greatly!
Amy Sanders, Director of Conference & Camp Services at Appalachian State University will be stepping in for Sravanthi Meka. She formerly served as both a Regional Director and Action Team Chair. We thank Amy for her willingness to serve the remainder of the Immediate Past Regional Director position.

Drew Elisabeth Ard Awarded Outstanding New Conference and Events Professional
Drew has been an Event Manager at the University of Kentucky since December 2017, and assumed additional responsibilities during a time of transition for the department. While taking on these extra duties, she managed over 10,000 events, oversaw Greek recruitment events and helped to develop a digital map for outdoor reservable spaces with the university’s GIS unit.
Region 2 Members Earn CCEP Designation
Carly Burt, CCEP and Michele Payne, CCEP received their CCEP designations at the 39th Annual Conference in Pittsburgh.
Carly Burt, CCEP, serves as Assistant Director - Office of Conferences at Vanderbilt University.
Michele Payne, CCEP, is the Director of Special Events and Continuing Legal Education at the University of Arkansas School of Law. Payne has been in the conference and events profession for 13 years and in her current position for six. She has been a member of ACCED-I since 2010.
"I completed my professional certification because I knew it would make me a more efficient and thorough planner and allow me to better serve the University of Arkansas and School of Law," Payne said. "I am honored to receive this recognition from my peers and look forward to using the knowledge I've gained through this process to tackle new challenges with enthusiasm, confidence and proficiency." more

University of Miami:
The University of Miami Office of Conference Services has new construction and new staff to brag about. Andres Reid is now on board as the Event & Conference Management Software Coordinator. “Andres is a recent graduate from the University of Miami with a degree in Business Technology and we are very excited to have Andres onboard with us,” said Richie Kenney, Director of Conference Services, University of Miami.

Tara Rappleye has been promoted to Assistant Director for Duke Conference and Event Services. She oversees summer programs and works to build registration websites. As an undergraduate she was an intern in the Hope College Events Office and was a Conference Assistant.
Stephanie Green has accepted the position as Assistant Manager for Duke Conference and Event Services. She will manage summer housing along with hiring and training student employees – summer term staff for conferences and the academic team that works with events.
Both will attend their first ACCED-I Annual Conference in Pittsburgh.

The ACCED-I Region 2 Drive-In Conference at USF St. Petersburg started with a warm welcome from Dwayne Isaacs, the campus' Director of Student Life & Engagement, which the Student Center and Event Services are housed under. The day continued with a venues & amenities tour, which showcased the 6 buildings that USFSP Event Services manages events in. Additionally, the USF St. Pete team highlighted some unique auxiliaries that USF St. Petersburg offers to our guests, including a ride on a 37 foot sailboat, which our ACCED-I colleagues were treated to wild dolphin, bird, and shark viewing in Tampa Bay. Lunch was served once we docked, where we were joined by campus partners including colleagues from the Office of Leadership & Student Organizations and Harborside Activities Board. The first session of the day over lunch was a round table on Divisional Collaborations & Developing Community Partnerships. The second session was joined by USF St. Pete Campus Police and Risk Management & Safety Compliance Officers, who led a round table session on the vetting process behind having Political & Controversial Events on Campus. Lastly, the day closed out with a round table discussion on Fronting: Using Student Orgs or Campus Departments for Free or Reduced Meeting/Event Spaces.
Region 2 Leadership Changes
Rob Ostrow has resigned his position as Immediate Past Regional Director for Region 2 as he has left the University of Florida and is moving to Durham, NC. In a Facebook post to Region 2 Rob said, "It has been an honor being part of the leadership for this outstanding association. I've connected with hundreds of like minded individuals in this industry and leveraged your ideas to create the program at UF. You all have progressed from peers to friends and hope our paths meet again...soon!" We wish Rob the best of luck!
Michele Payne will serve the remainder of Rob's term as Immediate Past Regional Director. Michele is the Assistant Director of Communications, Special Events & CLE for the University of Arkansas School of Law. She served as a Regional Director for Region 2 from 2013-2016. We thank Michele for her willingness to serve in this position.

Emory University Conference Services Donates to Atlanta Humane Society
Emory University Conference Services team donated old conference blankets to the Atlanta Humane Society at the end of the summer. When you are going through your end of the year checklist, know that your local Humane society is always thrilled to receive old blankets and towels!
News from NC State Team
In February, Dylan Morris moved into the role of Assistant Director for Conference Services at NC State. Effective Monday, April 30th, Sarah Heenan (formerly of William Peace University in Raleigh) joins the Conference Services office at NC State as Conference & Outreach Manager.
Villeta and Dumant Recognized at Student Affairs Awards Banquet
Congratulations to Wendy Villeta, Events Manager (left) and Tiffany Dumant, Events Coordinator (right) at Barry University in Miami Shores, FL. Both were recognized at the Barry University Student Affairs Awards Banquet. Wendy receive the Outstanding Support for Orientation Award and Tiffany received the Center for Student Involvement Impact Award.
Educational Forum Scholarship Offered by the Region

Dee J. Kelly Alumni & Visitor’s Center at Texas Christian University to Expand
The Dee J. Kelly Alumni & Visitor’s Center at Texas Christian University is two short months away from Phase 1 of a new addition, doubling the size of the building to 45,000 square feet. Once the addition is completed at the end of May, the Alumni Relations department will move their offices to the new second story addition, leaving the new portion of level one for a new grand entrance and front desk area.
Phase two will consist of renovating the current offices and remainder of the building, except for the banquet hall. The existing space will be reconfigured into seven additional conference rooms seating between 20 and 50 attendees. This will free up our banquet hall for the larger events! This phase is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving 2018.
Geneen Jackson Joins Georgia Tech Conference Services Staff Full-time
On February 1, 2018, Geneen Jackson joined Conference Services at Georgia Tech as a full-time conference coordinator.
Geneen has been with Georgia Tech’s Department of Housing as an Administrative Professional for Residence Life for 13 years. For the last five years, she has split her time between Residence Life and Conference Services.
“Now Geneen is with our conference team full time, and we could not be happier” said John Nussear, Director of Conference Services at Georgia Tech. “If you see Geneen at the Annual Conference, please tell her “Congrats!".
Spencer Earns MS Degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management
Erica Spencer, CCEP, CMP, Director of the Conference Services Bureau at Florida Institute of Technology, has earned the degree of Master of Science in Hospitality & Tourism Management from the Rosen College of Hospitality Management at the University of Central Florida. Spencer finishes the degree program with a 4.0 GPA.
Andrew Wright joined Georgia Tech Conference Services as Conference & eBusiness Manager
Andrew has nine and a half years of experience in Georgia Tech’s Residence Life program. He is excited to be able to use his experience with Georgia Tech’s Residence Halls in a different way to support Conference clients. Andrew has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from North Carolina State University and a Masters in College Student Personnel from The University of Southern Mississippi.
“Andrew is already making great progress in his new role with Conference Services,” said John Nussear, Director of Conference Services at Georgia Tech. “Andrew has become a full-fledged member of ACCED-I, and will be attending his first Annual Conference this March in Minneapolis. Please make sure to give him a warm first-timer welcome!”
